During my first visit to Hawaii (Oahu) I visited with my uncle (he lived there) and he took me out for a piece of Macadamia Nut Cream Pie. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!
During my second visit a couple years later, I went back to the same place for a piece but they didn’t have it anymore.
I was very sad. 😦 I did manage to find a piece from a shop on the North Shore but it wasn’t the same.
For some reason I recently decided I needed to make a Macadamia Nut Cream Pie. My first attempt – just didn’t happen (too sweet, and a kitchen disaster that messed up the filling) So I tried again last night and this is what happened!
Yes, I made it and I am rather pleased with it. 🙂
I used the recipe posted by the Polynesian Cultural Center but did make some changes.
1. I made a graham cracker crust rather than using a standard pie shell. I used 2 cups graham cracker crumbs, 1/3 cup melted butter and 1/2 cup sugar. Mixed well and pressed into a pie plate. Baked in a pre-heated 350 degree oven for 10 minutes and then cooled.
2. I used a full cup of chopped nuts.
3. I made my whipped cream with 1 1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream, 1/3 cup of powdered sugar and 1/2 a tsp of vanilla.
One more little addition was the flowers. I had them so I used them. They are edible and I think they made it prettier.
It was a very easy recipe and it’s not too sweet. You can adjust the sugar in whipped cream to your taste but I’d leave the filling sugar as is. (it’s mighty tasty)
